A 88 keys play

My theatre appreciation teacher suggested that for our final we either redesign a play or create one. The fashion designers redid costume designs. The graphic design and marketing majors created ad campaigns IE. pamphlets ticket design. At the moment in time when he asked me what I was going to do for my final for some odd reason i thought i should do a musical.
Later in the day listening to a musician by the name of 88 keys. He is a highly known hip-hop music producer and sound engineer. His brief hiatus from creating music resulted in his debut album. This album is called the Death of Adam.The album released in November of 2008.The album is not an ordinary hip-hop album that is composed of 15 random tracks loaded with hit singles and gimmicks made to sell records. This composition can be classified as a concept album.
The result is story of a man (Adam) who is effectually killed through his exploits with women. While the songs start as a straightforward celebration of sex, 88 keys later delves into aspects of the resulting relationships and ties back in to the murder mystery theme and the deep execution saves what could become a tired concept. The beauty behind the album is that once you listen you will realize that every song is similar to a chapter in a book. Each song keeps you on edge waiting to hear the next track. In between the tracks there is a narrator keeping everyone up to speed on the story.
Adam in one word can described as a womanizer. He dates various girls and he has his nice guy routines and various codes that he follows so that he can sleep with them. He falls for this one girl and after several Broadway plays, shopping sprees and expensive dinners she proclaims that they are “just friends” that he is more like a big brother to her. He dumps her immediately. This experience makes him drop his nice guy persona. He later meets another girl in a club that he takes home. She is attached to Adam. She thinks of Adam as her new boyfriend while he was thinking of her as more as a one-night stand. Poor judgment and unprotected sex leaves Adam with a STD. After clearing up his problems, the girl later shows up 4 weeks pregnant and she refuses to abort. So Adam’s social life is officially over.
The because of the concept of the album I thought it could be easily performed/translated as a play/musical rather than a concert. I think the albums content definitely can raise awareness of several kinds while not being cheesy and repetitive. So for my final project I organized and created marketing and design campaign promoting the album and the tour for the musical performance of the “Death of Adam”.Out of maybe 6 or seven really mediocre attempts at this project i came up with two covers. Instead of me trying to duplicate the concept of the first cover i decided to go completely left field and just have fun wit making some flyer's so the designs have more of a mix tape look.I kept the element of the bitten apple consistent through out the designs

This concept is my GTA(Grand Theft Auto) rendition of the subject matter of the play. All the boxes contain photos of things that could visually fit in with the album.The second version is the same rendition put through a couple of Photoshop filters




This design was a little more oriented to be like the original. I put the entire model in the picture to give it sex appeal. This one is the eye catcher. I figured a bright yellow flyer being placed around the city would definitely attract a lot of attention.
